Meet the team:
Glenn Turner
The Northwest National's director of golf is the charismatic Glenn Turner. Glenn shot into the national spotlight in 2006 when he played a different course every single day for an entire year to raise funds for charity. That year he gave more than 250 playing lessons during the fundraising trip round the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe. These days he is a familiar face on our TV screens, working regularly for Sky Sports, where he has his own Turner's Tips item.
Stuart Hurstfield
Stuart has been playing golf since the age of 12, a total of 24 years. As an amateur he competed at county level and also gained valuable experience playing in all of the major national events. In 1996 Stuart turned professional with the PGA, achieving fourth trainee status on completing the Diploma programme. The time and effort spent achieving a high level of skill has paid dividends in his chosen career of coaching others.
In previous roles, he spent six years in the Midlands and two years coaching and competing over in the USA.
Stuart coached as part of the PGA team at this year’s Open Championship on the R&A game improvement stand.
Joanne Bates
Joanne became a fully qualified PGA Professional in 2002 and since then has gained her PGA AA status. Her previous experiences also include roles as a teaching pro at Hillside, The Leisure Lakes Golf Academy and Royal Birkdale where she was assistant pro for five years. Originally from Cambridgeshire, Joanne took up golf at the age of 13. Within two years she was playing county golf. One of her many highlights was coaching for the PGA in the Junior Golf Centre at this year’s Open Championship.
Ben Trappe
Ben has been involved in golf for more than 20 years and following a successful playing career in the UK he chose to further his passion for teaching the game by becoming a full time coach. He is a qualified member of the British PGA and is also a certified Titleist fitness instructor. He has taught at some of the leading academies in the UK and has also developed the game of golf in Switzerland where he lived for a number of years and enjoyed working as head coach at the first golf school to be awarded AA class standard in the country. Having seen the Northwest National progress over the last few months, Ben is very excited about helping to develop the golf school and looks forward to meeting you all in the near future.
